The Beginning In the summer heat of Tucson, Arizona, a small family-run carpet and flooring shop named Bacahui Carpet (now known as "Vaakawi") opened its doors. The founders focused on affordable installations for local homes and small businesses. With a single van and relentless determination, Bacahui began laying the groundwork for its future.

Word Spreads
By the early 90s, Vaakawi had built a reputation for honest pricing and dependable work. Tucson homeowners appreciated the personal touch, and small business owners often recommended Vaakawi to each other. The company hired its first two employees outside the family and upgraded to a larger van.

Expanding the Craft
Clients began asking the same question: “Can you clean carpets too?” Vaakawi recognized an opportunity. They invested in their first professional carpet-cleaning machine, and soon cleaning services became just as common as installations.

First Commercial Contracts
A local medical office group hired Vaakawi for routine carpet cleaning. This became the company’s first recurring commercial maintenance contract, shifting their focus from individual residential jobs to long-term business partnerships.

The Move Toward Janitorial Services
Several commercial clients asked if Vaakawi could clean more than floors—desks, restrooms, breakrooms, and hallways. After months of planning and training, Vaakawi launched full-service janitorial programs, opening the door to broader facility care.

With a fleet of service vehicles, Vaakawi’s Phoenix division became the company’s strongest. Their focus on reliability and quality allowed them to win highly competitive commercial contracts.

Evolving Our Brand
After nearly 20 years operating as Bacahui Carpet & Services, Vaakawi made the strategic decision to streamline its corporate identity. The company realized that retaining 'Carpet' in the name no longer adequately represented the comprehensive scope of services it provides today.

The Pandemic & the Rebrand
COVID-19 changed everything. Demand for disinfecting services skyrocketed. Vaakawi acted quickly—training staff in hospital-grade sanitation, investing in electrostatic sprayers, and redesigning operational procedures. During this pivotal moment, the company realized it needed a fresh identity that represented its transformation from a flooring shop into a modern facility-care provider. In mid-2022, Bacahui Services rebranded to “Vaakawi”—a name chosen to represent precision, cleanliness, and forward momentum.

Scaling Up Nationwide
The company doubled its Phoenix workforce, and Vaakawi expanded its services nationwide to support our commercial cleaning and janitorial programs.
