Disinfection vs. Cleaning: Understanding the Difference

• Cleaning removes germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces or objects. It works by using soap (or detergent) and water to physically remove germs from surfaces. This process does not necessarily kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.
• Disinfecting works by using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs, but by killing germs on a surface after cleaning, it can further lower the risk of spreading infection.

Effective immediately, Vaakawi has implemented stricter protocols to combat the spread of the virus:

1. EPA-Approved Disinfectants: We are utilizing hospital-grade disinfectants that are EPA-registered and proven effective against human coronavirus.
2. Focus on High-Touch Points: Our teams are increasing the frequency of disinfection on "hot spots" such as door handles, light switches, elevator buttons, handrails, restroom fixtures, and breakroom surfaces.
3. Cross-Contamination Prevention: We are strictly adhering to our color-coded microfiber cloth system to ensure materials used in restrooms are never used in common areas.
4. Staff Safety: Our cleaning crews are equipped with the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including gloves and masks, to protect themselves and your facility. We have also implemented strict sick-leave policies—any team member showing symptoms stays home.
